Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Agni Kharel has blamed the major opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) that it took a non-democratic and non-parliamentary move by disrupting the Legislature-Parliament, thereby blocking the Prime Minister from putting forth his views.
Speaking with the media persons after emerging out of the meeting of the Parliament on Sunday, Minister Kharel expressed his ire questioning, “What kind of parliamentary democracy is this wherein the opposition commands Dos and Don’ts to the Prime Minister and the government, and forewarns of disrupting the meeting in the Legislature-Parliament?”
NC has been obstructing the parliament for some days demanding Rs 200,000 lump sum to be distributed to each quake-stricken household.
Minister Kharel stated that the Prime Minister had been trying to deal with the issues raised by the NC in the Parliament meeting but he was not able to do so.
‘After all, the government is also a kind of parliament, isn’t it?”, he asked back.
Govt takes parliament as seminar
Meanwhile, NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi expressed his grudge, “The government has acknowledged the parliament as a seminar and interaction programme.
Nidhi said that the PM ought to obtain consent from the opposition to address the issues raised by the opposition in the parliament. According to him, the PM was reluctant to do so.
Moreover, the central member claimed that the NC was not obstructing the House. He assured that the parliament will resume smoothly once the government agrees to avail Rs 200,000 to each quake-hit household.
